Active Hydrotherapy
The goal of Aquanetics™, as in most therapy approaches, is to return the patient to an optimal functional recovery on land.

To achieve this functional recovery, Aquanetics™ utilizes hydrodynamic principles (Bernoulli’s theorem, Archimedes’ law, principles of buoyancy and turbulence, etc.) and active hydrotherapy techniques.

A typical treatment will include
  • basic active therapy components of flexibility,
  • range of motion (ROM),
  • strengthening, core stabilization, and
  • functional movement integration (restoring normal use of the injured area).

Water allows for movements and exercises that often cannot be performed on land due to the limitations of pain. The environment of water itself has been scientifically proven to:
  • decrease weight bearing on joints,
  • increase support to affected areas,
  • increase proprioception,
  • increase venous return, and
  • increase oxygen supplied to muscles.

Utilized by a skilled practitioner, the hydrodynamics of water can be effectively used to increase strength, flexibility, and endurance.
The result is immediate active rehabilitation that promotes a quicker recovery.

The Aquanetics™ certification course (17 CMT CEC credits) is offered as post-graduate study for Registered Massage Therapists in BC.
